Personality
What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (100-300 words) Darin's biggest fear is two-fold: becoming 'The Destroyer' as foretold by prophecy and ruining his world or having others find out about the true nature of his abilities and the difficult explanations he'd have to give surrounding his birth, his family, and everything else he's come to learn about himself. Despite how standoffish he can act, Darin actually cares a lot about others and tries to act like he doesn't care what others actually think of him. He doesn't want to get close to anyone out of fear that he'll inevitably disappoint them by becoming the monster he believes himself to be. Sometimes, his greatest fear is less what he might become, but seeing the pain on the faces of the people he cares about when they realize what he is. That fear of betrayal and being the one to betray is why he does his best to not get attached to people.
What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (100-300 words) Darin has two desires that share equal billing in his heart; one he states outwardly and the other is a deeply kept secret. Outwardly, his greatest desire is to be 'normal.' To lose his powers and become a normal human who can live peacefully amongst other humans. He doesn't want to live in fear of his abilities or, more specifically, how others react to his abilities. He wants to have a shot at a decent life and he feels that he can do that if his powers were taken away. But deep down, he never gave up the dream he had as a child with his brother: the dream of becoming a hero. Of being accepted not only for his powers, but more specifically for his heart. He wants to show the world that he's not the monster that they've convinced him that he was. To rise up and become someone who leads and inspires. It's this secret wish of his that winds up motivating him; that makes him unable to turn his back on people, even if he gripes outwardly about it. He has the heart of a paragon that he does his best to deny.
How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words) Without memories of who he is or the prophecy of his world, Darin would be free of the guilt that plagues his actions and fuels his crippling self-doubt. He'd be free to act as his heart dictates without fear of reprisal or acceptance, making him a much more emotionally stable person. Beyond that, once he realizes he has powers, he'll use them without fear and will actually seek to train them rather than hide them and let them atrophy. He'll become a force for good without even realizing it was his childhood dream. However, this will also make him much more reckless. Darin spent his entire life learning just enough of his abilities to master looking 'normal.' As such, he knows what some of his limitations are. If he tried to push those limits now, he'd gravely injure himself, which could potentially put others in danger beside himself. He would also lose some of, if not all, his observational awareness. Darin spent his formative years watching others for social cues on how to act 'normal.' Because of this, he became very adept at reading people. Without this knowledge, Darin would likely be less insightful and more emotionally driven. And considering what gets set loose when he gets angry, it's likely going to lead to trouble.
